Rabies is a vaccine-prevention viral zoonosis. As soon as clinical symptoms appear, rabies are fatal in almost 100% of cases. Domestic dogs are responsible for the transmission of the rabies virus to humans in almost 99% of cases. Yet rabies affect both domestic and wild animals. It is usually transmitted to humans and animals through saliva in case of bite or scratch.
Rabies occur on all continents except Antarctica, but more than 95% of fatal human cases occur in Asia and Africa. Rabies is one of the neglected tropical diseases affecting the poor and vulnerable populations living in isolated rural areas. Approximately 80% of human cases are in rural areas. Although there are effective vaccines and immunoglobulin for humans, these products are not readily available or accessible to those in need.
